What Is ART Treatment for Infertility?
If you have been having trouble becoming pregnant, it is important to understand the options you have to combat infertility. Thanks to the advancements in scientific research, assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatments have allowed thousands of intended parents around the country to become pregnant when they never thought they would be able to do.
In vitro fertilization, commonly referred to as IVF, is the most common type of ART treatment. At Baby Steps Surrogacy Center, Inc., we can discuss all of the options with you and decide which treatment may be best. In the event that you cannot carry a child, we can also discuss surrogacy alternatives using ART.
In Vitro Fertilization
IVF is used for women who are having a hard time becoming pregnant, and it is also used in the surrogacy process. In the IVF process, hormones are given to the intended mother through injections as a way to stimulate egg growth. If the surrogate mother is being implanted with an egg, this part of the process may be skipped.
Once the hormone injections stimulate egg growth, an egg will be retrieved from the woman’s body. Then, a sperm is added to the egg in a lab, where the embryo will develop. Occasionally, more than one embryo will develop, and the extra embryos can be frozen in case the first transfer is unsuccessful.
One created embryo is then placed in the uterus of the intended mother, whether it be the intended mother’s womb or that of a surrogate. Pregnancy will be verified six or seven weeks after the embryo is placed in the uterus; however, miscarriages can occur.
