Understanding Assisted Conception

Assisted conception, also known as assisted reproductive technology (ART), is the use of third-party and other reproductive options to help intended parents have a child. There are various forms of assisted conception, and depending on each intended parent’s situation, some types of assisted conception must be used together to achieve parenthood.

At Baby Steps Surrogacy Center, Inc., we are familiar with ART and how assisted conception can create families. We can help intended parents receive sperm and egg donations, guide them through the in vitro fertilization process, and/or match them with a surrogate who can carry and deliver their child.

Sperm and Egg Donation

Whether you are a single intended parent, in a same-sex couple, or an intended parent struggling with fertility, you can use sperm and egg donors to create a child of your own. You may be able to combine part of your DNA with a sperm or egg, or you can use both an egg and sperm donor to develop an embryo. Whatever path you choose, you will have control over the donors selected for helping with your baby.

In Vitro Fertilization

In vitro fertilization is a medical procedure used to help mothers struggling with infertility. In vitro fertilization is also used to create and transfer eggs for surrogacy. During the procedure, the doctor extracts a woman’s eggs from her uterus, fertilizes the egg outside the womb, then places them back into the uterus once an embryo has been created.

Surrogacy

Surrogacy is a form of assisted conception used in combination with in vitro fertilization or intrauterine insemination.

In gestational surrogacy, in vitro fertilization is used to transfer the already-created embryo into the surrogate’s uterus. In traditional surrogacy, intrauterine insemination is used to implant sperm into the surrogate’s uterus, where it then fertilizes the surrogate mother’s egg and creates an embryo.
